It was under sunny skies and a nice breeze that the 2nd annual Capital Karting Grand Prix got under way today.
The morning session was a practice run for our Capital Karting competitive Grand Prix racers who got the hang of the Karters Korner's track by running laps in their respective classes. At lunch time, the winners of our Facebook contest "Win 10 laps in a race kart" were able to experience the exhilirating experience of racing competitive karts and feeling the speeds of these machines.Early afternoon saw more practice time for the racers where transponders were tested to make sure they were functioning.
Late afternoon saw the practice run for the Mayor's Cup of Wishes. Teams representing Access Riggings Services, R.P. Construction, Signs.ca, Soldier On, Am-Tech Electrical, Podium Special Events Management, Carleton U. Engineering and the Race Kings were on the grid, having generously donated to our charities and being ready to battle for bragging rights. The official Mayor's Cup of Wishes race, a 90 minute enduro-style contest, took place after the practice run and a good time was had by all.
The Signs.ca Ringers claimed first place in the Mayor's Cup of Wishes race, followed by Podium Special Events Management's Podium Seekers coming in second place and Access Rigging Services finishing in 3rd place.
Younger visitors were able to enjoy the Kids Zone (Inflatables, mini putt, kiddie rides, face painting,, etc) while adults were able to enjoy the fine beer products of the Bicycle Craft Brewery. The day ended with a Charity BBQ, with Jade Racicot's Golden Fries and the Cheese Grillerie cooking the burgers and the sausages for the hungry racers.
Tomorrow, the action gets hot on the track as it is competitive racing in the Capital Karting Grand Prix all day, starting at 7:30am and finishing around 3pm. Come see these fast karts whirl around the track to battle for up to $10 000 in cas and prizes. Our other activities will all be there (Kid's Zone, Bicycle Craft Brewery,Jade Racicot's Golden Fries and the Cheese Grillerie, Ken Janzen's paintings, etc), so join us for another sunny day of fast action and great entertainment.
